Doppelsota

When you live somewhere for a long time you get used to seeing the same people over and over. So when you move somewhere new, I think you instinctively look for those same people. They're not there, of course. So you start to find people like them. Last night I went with my friend Michael to the Town Talk Diner and I'll be darned if the waiter wasn't Minnesota Matthew Baldwin. It's turned into a whole thing around here. Jill and I will be out somewhere and she'll say, "Hey look, there goes Minnesota John Smersh!"
"Yep, he's talking to Minnesota Steve Scher," I'll reply.
It's like my whole life has been recast and staged like they do on America's Most Wanted. Still murder-free for the moment.

If you meet my Minnesota twin, you have my permission to kill her.

At the time of its release in 1998, I looked absolutely identical to a minor this guy in Mask of Zorro. I had the same length hair, beard, and everything.

I saw the film with a bunch of friends, and the first time the character appeared in the movie, they all spent several seconds looking from me to the screen in amazement.

I know exactly what you mean. I've lived too many places, but once I left the Pacific NW, it got really confusing. Because *of course* that's not __________, but damned if it doesn't look just like her!

Plus, teaching a new batch of students every semester whose names I barely remember during class, I'm incredibly confused. And the students, of course, look like we all did way back when. Which is even more confusing. Fortunately I get to be the addle-brained professor.
