New Motto For My Alma Mater

Federal Way High School: Too Freaking Stupid to Notice a 33-year-old Narc

Yep, they're the ones who banned both An Inconvenient Truth and Huckleberry Finn, too. Honestly, it's a miracle I can even dress myself coming out of that place.

Oh John, I've seen you dress, thank God Jill is there to help you. I just didn't know it was due to your alma mater.

I know this is old news, but I'm catching up. Federal Way HS also banned an educational theatre group I used to tour with, GAP (Growth & Prevention) Theatre. We toured pretty decent shows on discrimation, prejudice & racism. We did a 45-minute show & a 45-minute mediated talk-back. But we had 2 gay members, and they wanted us to guarantee that we wouldn't talk about homosexuality, not even say the word or imply anything about it, and not "go there" if a student brough it up. They told us as we were getting ready to perform, like 5 minutes before. We declined to change the show. They insisted, but we started to pack up instead. They didn't know what else to do, so they let us perform anyway. And then they banned us after that.

It made me more sad than angry; there must be some kids quietly suffering there. Very, very sad.
